Gold Strike Casino Resort Formed in 1996 by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, North Mississippi Allstars grew out of a loose collective of musicians from their hometown of Hernando, Mississippi. The band’s roots run deep, inspired by their father — legendary producer and musician Jim Dickinson — as well as neighborhood musical elders such as R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner and Fred McDowell. Its adventurous, boundary-pushing sound — dubbed “Modern Mississippi Music” — has earned the group multiple Grammy nominations and a devoted international fan base. The band’s first album, “Shake Hands with Shorty,” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album, with later albums “51 Phantom” and “Electric Blue Watermelon” receiving nominations in the same category.
