Celebrating five decades as one of rock’s most enduring and influential bands, Jefferson Starship has earned an impressive catalog of accolades over its storied career, including three platinum albums, eight gold records and a long list of Top 40 Billboard singles.

Founded in the 1970s by the legendary Paul Kantner, Jefferson Starship was created to include former members of Jefferson Airplane. Kantner envisioned the band as a collective of creative explorers contributing to a series of epic concept albums and rock classics. As the band marks its 50th anniversary, it continues to honor Kantner’s legacy following his passing in 2016.

Today’s lineup, which began taking shape in 2012, has carried that spirit forward, evolving into a powerhouse touring band that continues to thrill audiences worldwide. Current members, who proudly refer to themselves as both a “family” and a “gang,” include original member David Freiberg; drummer Donny Baldwin, who joined the band in 1982; keyboardist Chris Smith, who signed on in 1998; and guitarist Jude Gold, who joined in 2012. Vocals are led by singer and guitarist Cathy Richardson, who came aboard in 2008 after Kantner saw her dynamic performance of Janis Joplin’s vocals alongside Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Together, the band has performed in all 50 U.S. states, visited five continents and brought its music to countless countries, continuing Kantner’s trademark spirit of curiosity, exploration and musical adventure.
