Tunica County Back and Open for Business

TUNICA, Miss. - June 22, 2011 — Closed for two weeks due to devastating floodwaters from the Mississippi River, Tunica, Miss., its nine casinos and numerous area attractions are back and open for business. May's historic flooding effectively forced the shutdown of most of the area, but by Memorial Day, the South's Casino Capital was back to providing 24/7 fun to visitors.

"It's great to be able to show people how resilient Tunica truly is,' said Webster Franklin, President & CEO of the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau. "The businesses and their employees have been loyal to our community and patient during this trying time. We only hope the resilience that we have exhibited is inspiring to those in other areas that have been affected by the flood as well as those in our own county who are doing their best to rebuild.'

The Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched a We're Open campaign slated to run throughout the summer in Birmingham, Huntsville, Little Rock and Nashville to raise awareness that Tunica's world-class casinos, championship golf, entertainment and dining options, and more are ready and waiting just down the road.

The area took a huge economic hit as a result of the recent flooding. The summer campaign is aimed at reminding people of the variety experiences available in Tunica, hopefully boosting visitor numbers during the crucial travel months ahead.

The campaign takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the area's recent devastation, with slogans such as, "The flood is over, the party's started' and "Even a 100 year flood can't stop the 24/7 fun.'

Franklin noted that while damage inflicted to homes and businesses throughout the area was significant, he hopes to assure possible visitors that Tunica has rebounded and will continue to provide guests with oneof- a-kind experiences.

"It will take more than a 100-year flood to take away the heart and soul of Tunica,' said Franklin, "and we're ready for visitors to come back and see it for themselves.'
